CONEY
A Small Town Anywhere
Coney is an agency of adventure that makes play, which is live, responsive, interactive and participatory, using whatever comes to hand and casting the audience in the leading role. Events start when audiences first hear about them and only end when they stop thinking about them.
Coney projects take place wherever people are, with recent projects happening online, in a theatre, in museums, public space and in a school. Coney’s A Small Town Anywhere, is a play which features no actors at all. Instead, the town Coney build inside the theatre space is peopled by a playing audience, who have complete agency over the outcome of their particular town’s story.
Coney’s recent school project, A Cat Escapes saw a class of 8 year olds taking part in a 6-week narrative adventure. Each week the class would receive and email or letter from a kidnapped cat. The weekly ‘chapters’ of the story featured challenges which allowed the children to help the cat escape its captors, as well as covering a wide range of curriculum learning topics.
Coney is currently developing A Cat Escapes, consulting on a interactive broadcast project, developing an adventure for Tate Britain and making an adventure about contemporary art.
Coney is soon launching its first Adventure Lottery, where the winner will receive a weekend-long adventure, designed exclusively for them and inspired by their personal interests and dreams – for more info email adventurelottery@youhavefoundconey.net
